Hi,

I think that you'll find that NetWorker counts 1000 MB as 1 GB.

The save information that I get is in Kb
So to convert I need to divide by 1024 then by 1000.
Technically speak I should divide by 1024 then by 1024 again.
Which goes show that the coding of the Gb figures seem to be based on a
division of the Kb figure rather then and accurate Gb figure.
But, since I don't have the source code, I can't tell how it gets the
figures.
I could be wrong though (and most probably am!)

George,

Yes. This is probably to do with precision. (2 GB could be anywhere
between 2000 MB and 2999 MB. Once you get to numbers like 23 GB it is
less important whether it is 23000 MB or 23999 MB.)

A little bit of experimenting with mminfo (from NSR 6.1) shows that the
numbers it displays are:

0 - 999 B
2 - 9999 KB
10 - 9999 MB
10 - ? GB

Some notes:

- My examples only go to ~70 GB, but the man page indicates that it
will display TB and PB. IMHO, anyone who uses NetWorker to make
serious savesets that push into TB and PB teritory have rocks in
  their head...

- The KB figures are rounded up (1025 bytes is shown as 2 KB). The MB
and GB figures seem to be rounded down.

- I don't know what happens between 1000 and 1024 bytes because my
media db doesn't have anything in that range. If pushed I'd guess
that it came out as "1 KB".

- AFAICT, Legato uses the "marketing" versions of MB and GB (ie, 1 MB =
1000 KB, 1 GB = 1000 MB). Makes the product seem more impressive to
  the management types from prospectives.

- I'm sure there is a bug in here somewhere, but the thought of a 3
month argument about how I'm not looking for a work around just saps
all the energy from my dialing finger...

The sizes in savegrp completion notices are actually generated by
"save" on the client. Really old client code (like the best that
Legato provides for Netware machines) just show in KB. More recent
versions show KB, MB and GB. Some of these seem to show thousands of
KB as (for example) 1234 KB and others as 1.2 MB, while sticking with
the mminfo scheme for GB. In short this looks like a real dogs
breakfast.

George.
