Subject: [Networker] I/O errors and scanner questions

Hey All,

E450

Solaris 2.6

Solstice Backup 6.1.2

StorageTek 9940B Drives in a 9310 Silo

During my cloning today I ran in to the below I/O errors on one of my
volumes that was being read.

03/25/03 10:54:08 nsrd: media warning: /dev/rmt/24cbn reading: I/O error

03/25/03 10:54:08 nsrd: media notice: Volume "S00206" on device
"/dev/rmt/24cbn": Cannot decode block. Verify the device configuration.
Tape positioning by record is disabled.

03/25/03 10:54:08 nsrd: media info: can not read record 1430 of file 21
on 9940 tape S00206

So I stopped the cloning and ran a 'scanner -v -i /dev/rmt/24cbn' and
got the below errors.

.........

.........

.........

scanner: fn 21 rn 1430 read error I/O error

scanner: Opened /dev/rmt/24cbn for read

scanner: Opened /dev/rmt/24cbn for read

scanner: Opened /dev/rmt/24cbn for read

scanner: ssid 2147404545: NOT complete

scanner: ssid 2147404545: 310 MB, 43 file(s)

scanner: done with 9940 tape S00206

scanner: Rewinding...

scanner: Rewinding done

scanner: the following save sets continue on another volume:

client name save set save time level size files
ssid S

test_talk.nt E:\ 3/25/03 2:02 i 318169548 43
2147404545 S

scanner: when next volume is ready, enter device name (or `q' to quit)
[/dev/rmt/24cbn]? q

scanner: (ssid 2147404545) error decoding save stream

scanner: (ssid 2147404545) confirmed 61 existing file index entries

So does this mean ssid 2147404545 is screwed up and needs to be deleted?
Is this just bad media? After running the scanner I have a list of
about 25 ssids that show as !rolledin. Are these savesets
unrecoverable? How can I clone as much as possible from this volume?

Sorry to bother... but Sun support for solstice backup SUCKS!!!

Thanks,

Joel
