That's simple : in DDS, SDS environment or even when a client can use
more than one storage node (in other words, multiple
entries in the client's storage node affinity field), you may want
to know/monitor/trace (like I am trying to do) which SN has been
used. It can be useful to know if you are using different
JUKEBOX and different pools, in order, for sample, to automate the
processing of detection of the amount of tape to that have
been daily used and to replace (load/unload) into your lib.

Parsing log files forces you to run that "monitoring" or "reporting"
script from the server or to exports the logs and you fall back
of the traditional problems of security, date format, Unix <CR> Vs
Windows <CR><LF> problems.

In such a case, it's not dynamic anymore and you cannot rebuild
nor cross-check your processing.

That's the reason why I am looking at to find a way.... ;-)

About you great idea of creating a notification, even if the idea is
good, it's not applicable : Assume a tape is already mounted when the
save starts, then the parsing to trace back the storage node
is like an endless loop.

Thanks anyway for your answer,

Thierry

Hi There

I don't really see why you would like that information, but you should be able
to get this from the Deamon.log. But if you wan't this in the future I would
would recommend creating a notification that looks at media events and log that
into a file.

.... ???

Dears,

I think I explored all possible ways but maybe one of you has THE solution or a
piece of the puzzle I could have mist :

Assume a client X has for Storage node Affinity, SN1 and SN2.

I am looking for a way to track back which SN wrote the
data from client X to tape without looking at log files,
not just for today, knowing each backup may have been written to a different SN.

Using Tape location field from mminfo is not possible because if the jukebox is
statically shared (SDS)or dynamically (DDS), the tape location is set to the
name of the [SAN]SN that control the robotic arm.

Thanks !

Thierry
