Yes, the software is built in ready for use. You just add IP address,
netmask and default router and point your browser at it. Then you'll
probably grumble for a bit staring at a blank screen, download the Sun Java
plugin for your browser, try it again and it'll work :-)

The web interface shows which slots have cartridges, what the barcode is,
details of tape drives (firmware, SCSI ID, type, serial number, etc). It
also lets you have a look at the library's error log and whether there are
any tapes in the CAP. Can't remember if it tells you the barcode of tapes in
the CAP though.

It's certainly useful and stops you having to go and peer into the library
to work out what's really going on!

Not necessary, but easier if you do so you don't have to remember the IP
address of your tape library when you want to connect to it!

Not that I know of, I'm afraid. I would have thought that using the sji*
commands that Legato provides may let you do the manipulation you want,
though, as they work at a much lower level than NetWorker and don't need the
NetWorker services to be up and running for them to do their thing.
