This used to be the case with older Linux clients. I think the limit was
2 GB. The problem was resolved in a later release of the client. I know
it was because we backup 15 GB files all the time on RedHat machines.
Are you running the latest client? We're running RedHat 7.3 on a lot of
machines, and we, too, have a Solaris server running 6.1.1, BUT, we
backup our Linux clients to a Linux storage node server also running
7.3.

Here's what 'rpm -qi lgtoclnt-6.1.1-1' says on one of our clients:
