Tom,

  Does a save session run any better if it's initiated from the client
system?  Even if it doesn't, if you run it with verbose messaging
enabled, you should be able to determine the file or directory that
may be causing the hang-up.  Maybe an odd device or swap file
is to blame.  Maybe a network connectivity issue is to blame.  By
the way, you didn't mention which product you're using for your
root disk encapsulation.
