Thx for your replies. I just tried out that new eKnowledgebase thing of
Legato's, and in fact found this under "legato8003" (the solution ID, I
guess...)

"

Here is the solution:
Client OS attribute of client resource is not populated if enterprise or
Eval license is applied. Self-id licensing checking isn't turned on when
either you have Enterprise enabled, or you're within an Eval license. We
will get this information from the save signal so you will not see the
field filled up till a save is run.

This should not be an issue with Enterprise Edition.

To prove my point.

Launch nsradmin
Type in visual ( or just vis )
Cursor to SELECT
Cursor to NSR CLIENT
Cursor to EDIT
Cursor DOWN to the bottom and you should see:
         clone storage nodes: nsrserverhost;
              client OS type: Solaris;
                        CPUs: 2;
           NetWorker version: 6.1.2.Build.340;
              enabler in use: Yes;
ESC to exit edit mode
Q to quit

Thanks to all who replied. Unfortunately, under Solaris 8 running
NetWorker 6.1.1 with an Enterprise Enabler key, the "client OS type" (as
well as the other fields you mention below) aren't reported. I can't
think of any other idiosyncrasies in my environment.

Weird.

Hi Phillip,

This example is from a Solaris prompt. The server is running on Solaris 8
w/
6.1.1.

Note that the script is _three_ lines.

#!/bin/sh
echo "show name; client OS type; backup command; CPUs; NetWorker version
print type: nsr client" | nsradmin -s devnull -i -

We've got a pretty good mix of clients. Legacy clients (SunOS 4.x, NDMP)
don't
report the OS type. Also, clients that use modules (for example the Lotus
Notes Module where the backup command is 'nsrnote.bat') dont' report the
OS
type, either.

Regards,
                 /\/elson
