We encounter this issue as well with NetWorker 6.1.1. Build 238 on a Win2K
platform. If we recycle from the GUI the tapes are not marked as manual. If
we recycle from the command line, we have to use the "-o notmanual" option to
ensure the tapes are not set to manual after we manually relabel them.

However, when NetWorker recycles a tape automatically, within the same pool,
NetWorker appears to apply it's own rules regardless of what the pool is set
for. For example, we have a DAILY pool where all tapes are set to "not manual"
and when NetWorker recycles the tapes he appears sometimes to mark them as
manual and other times not.

The only way we've found to work around this issue is to ensure that we have
the tapes labeled correctly prior to the backup.

Hi,

we have a Networker 6.1.2 running on a Tru64 Unix 5.1a server.
Since a few days it happens that recycleable tapes sometimes get the state
"manual" when they are relabeled by Networker.
Here is an example:

Volume IMA.040 was recycled by Networker this morning:

11/21/02 07:44:54 nsrd: nsrjb notice: nsrjb -j juke -O663 -l -R -M -J
nsrserver IMA.040
11/21/02 07:46:16 nsrd: media info: loading volume IMA.040 into
/dev/ntape/tape0_d1
11/21/02 07:47:01 nsrd: /dev/ntape/tape0_d1 Verify label operation in progress
11/21/02 07:47:37 nsrd: /dev/ntape/tape0_d1 Label without mount operation in
progress
11/21/02 07:47:37 nsrd: media info: tz89 tape IMA.040 will be over-written
11/21/02 07:47:38 nsrd: deleted media notice: Deleted volume:
volid=1159154945, volname=IMA.040, location=juke
11/21/02 07:47:59 nsrd: /dev/ntape/tape0_d1 is now write enabled

After that the volume has state "manual":

mminfo -m IMA.040
volume written (%) expires read mounts capacity
M IMA.040 4802 MB 7% manual 0 KB 12 70 GB

nsrjb -C | grep IMA.040

     5: IMA.040 IMAP UBO419 3699476993 manually

Hay anyone seen this before?
I can not see the reason for that.

Thanks for any hints,
Josef
