Hi Brian!

You say all servers can see the tapedrives?

This is not recommended. Actually you should in a fabric environment zone
tapedrives so that only the hosts that need the device could see them and
only the tapedrives. The hosts which should be able to see the drives,
would not be able to see eachother. This could be done by port-level-
zoning or by WWN-zoning. My guess is that if you have  a Compaq SAN, this
is BROCADE switches right? This should help.

Also you mention servers sets the drives to clean, this is a known W2K bug
which is mentioned at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;Q319313 this also applies a hotfix to correct this problem.

Depending on which HBA's you're using you could also do some binding at
the host-level to WWN/device.

The MDR's are preferrably set to fabric-mode in a fabric environment,
aswell as the HBA's.
