Hi Ernie

The path is already in. Think it was already there upon installation. Any
other solutions ?

Cheers..
Robert

Hallo Robert,

just an idea that might help.

Open the computer properties (My Computer, right click) on the client.
Select the tab "Advanced", then click on the button "Environment Variables".
Select the SYSTEM environment variable "PATH" and double-click to open it
for editing. Add "C:\;D:\nsr\bin;" to the beginning of the variable. Next,
stop the nsrexecd service on the client and do a reboot the client !!.
Then try the backup again, if this happens to work then I can explain the
problem. If it does not work then I may have another idea.

Bye
Ernie

PS. Make sure you edit the system variable PATH and not the user variable.

Hi Hrvoje,

Run from W2K client command prompt "C:\nsrexecd -s server" work, what u
meant "This is NOT legato issue" I think this problem should be between W2K
and networker client. May be some of registry key not enter correctly, or is
that a way to force it to use C:\nsr\res\servers file. Initiately I thought
it could be DNS, but after I edit the local host to include the server name,
don't feel like DNS problem anymore. Still wondering which part went wrong
:)

Hi Ernie,
Has tried your method but doesn't work. thanks

cheers...
Robert

try to run nsrexecd from the command prompt on those clients
(that's NOT net start nsrexecd but in one cmd window nsrexecd
and the enter). See if Your backup runs then. If You have
Gbit card then this will 100% work. If so, this is NOT Legato
issue ;)

Cheers,
Hrvoje

Maybe something that could help.

The Networker installer has problem with the service entries in the
registry. You won't really notice if you do not make changes but if will
cause a problem if change the "ImagePath" entry and you do not notice the
error.

Make sure that you remove the "s (double-quotes) in the ImagePath. If you do
not remove them then W2K will try to execute the program string as it is
written (like "D:/nsr/bin/nsrexecd -s aix".exe) instead of the appending the
parameters.

Bye
Ernie

Hi Thierry,

I am sorry, the file that I modified is correct D:\nsr\res\servers file.
This problem only come in when we upgraded 9 of the NT servers to W2K, 2 of
the 9 have this problem. Any help are welcome :)

cheers...
Robert

Robert,

It's not D:\nsr\res\rserver from the client side,
it's D:\nsr\res\servers file.

Fill it correctly with FQDN and NFQDN of your backup server, one a line
and restart nsrexecd from service control panel or
using "net stop nsrexecd" then "net start nsrexecd"

HTH,

Thierry

Subject: [Networker] probe unexpectedly exited

Hi

Backup server AIX 4.3
Networker version 6.0.2
Client server W2K
Networker version 6.0.2

Problem : Client can initiate backup but not from server
Info : #savegrp -pvvv clientgroup
        -> savefs -s aix12_bnet -c zz_th_mailappa -g ZZ_TH_MailAppAdfp
-p -l
full -R -v -F F:\notedata
        -> probe unexepectedly exited
Try : At client side issue command at command prompt
"D:\nsr\bin\nsrexecd -s aix" above command successfully went through
without error.
Has tried to uninstall and reinstall the networker client
software
and edit D:\nsr\res\rserver file to no avail
Has tried to reinstall software to different directory and edit
registry with "nsrexecd -s servername" to no avail

Believe could be somethings to do with registry, but hardcode "nsrexecd
-s
servername" to registry doesn't seem like take effect. What else I can
do
with the registry ? or other
Any suggestions are welcome.
cheers...
Robert
