Jason,
Even though your message is 3 months old I thought a reply might be worth it
to someone.
We created a file with 512 X in it ( 8 lines of 64 characters each ). Lets
call the file data.
Now load the tape to be erased and run the following commands.
mt -f /dev/rmt/zcbn rewind (z = device number)
tar -cvf /dev/rmt/zcbn data
mt -f /dev/rmt/zcbn rewind
An inventory of this media now only takes about 10 seconds and there are no
errors as a result
of the "erasing".
