Not. Should take about 5 minutes, including load and unload.
I have just struggled through a full week with our L1000 and 4
dlt8000's. Some folks here have said they had to extend various
timeouts in order for things to work properly.
Before I discovered the *real* problem, I tried this. It seemed
to work better, but I was fooling myself. Labeling tapes took a long
long time, and sometimes failed completely.
What I found was a bad/flakey SCSI terminator. Once I replaced the
offending hardware, I reset all the timeouts to the defaults, and
everything works great. Labeling barcoded tapes takes less than five
minutes per tape.
Have you looked for read/write errors in /nsr/logs/daemon.log or
messages? You might inspect your hardware configuration.
Good Luck,
deb
