Yep, everything looks good, and nothing has changed.

But I'll try messing a bit with ports config and see what I can come up
with.

Thanks
Johan

Yes,

And offcourse the clients configuration (/nsr/res/nsrla.res) hasn't changed
as well? So the ports configuration are in sinc with the server
configuration?

Nope, in fact the last few weeks it's gone down by a few.

Right now the rules in the firewall allows two-way communication on any port
between the backup server and it's clients.
And still, this has never happened to any other client, we've had a problem
or two once in a while, but this client is the only one that gives us this
particular problem.

Well did the number of clients increase lately?

If so try to get more connection ports through your firewall.

You're absolutely right, full backups are what works, can't believe I didn't
see that :/

Strange that it fails only on this client, and that it only began doing so
recently, rather then when we set it all up, 2+ years ago...?

Oh well, thanks a bunch, at least now I have something to work with.

We had the same problem.

It probably works when you perform a full backup and fails when you run a
incremental? Did with us anyway.

I changed the port range. We have a different for backup's through a
firewall and another not through a firewall.

Incrementals demand more connection port per time unit because of the lesser
data that has to be backuped.

Hope this helps.

Onderwerp: [Networker] Problem with a Solaris client

We have a Networker server running v 6.1.1, and around 15-20 clients.
Most of the clients are Solaris 7 or 8.

For no apparent reason, one of the client(Sol 7, NW 6.1.1) started giving us
an error almost every time a backup is taken.
"save: Cannot bind socket to connection port in configured port range on
system <hostname>."
This happens in 95% of the cases, however, once in a rare while it will
work, and I have no idea why.

The backups run through a firewall, but that's the case with all of the
clients, and the firewall rules are setup exactly the same for all the
clients, so I doubt the firewall is to blame, especially considdering it's
worked for around 2 years without any problems, the firewall rules remaining
the same.

If I look in the firewall logs, I see the client making a load of
connections to the backup server on the usual high ports, all connections
accepted by the firewall and looking perfectly normal.

I've tried restarting Networker on both the server and client side to no
avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Johan
