Case 2073614--(Issue No.10 for ::snip::) If a tape drive is
disabled at around the same time which Networker is attempting to load a
tape into it, then it will get stuck continually trying to load a tape
into that drive. No other jukebox operations will occur until the drive
is re-enabled. This was on a storage node. The messages seen on the
NetWorker server in nsradmin were

operation result:
"Sun 22:25:10 device `rd=bkserv2:/dev/rmt/7cbn' is not enabled",
under messages:
"nsrjb -s bkserv1 -j rd=bkserv2:stk_l700_bond -O367 -Y -L -B -m -M
-bDaily -S\
 38 ",

We have seen this occur several times in the past few weeks. Networker
attempts to use drives which were disabled before the backups started.
The weekend before last we received over 2200 error notifications for this
problem (which resulted in over 2200 email being sent).
-----------------------------

So if you only got 200 emails you didn't do too bad :)

There was one improvement made in a recent Networker for this problem.
Previously when this occured Networker would continually try and load a
tape into the same drive without trying any other available drives. Thus
even if you had 5 free drives, it would continually try and load the first
one, generating this problem over and over, and thus end up not loading
any drives.

As of 6.something they changed it so that if this occurs for the first
drive, it will skip over that drive and go onto the second drive. Only
if/when there are no other empty drives will it come back to this drive
and start looping. If another drive comes free it will move onto that,
then back to this one (and back to the looping).

It's still not pretty, but at least it doesn't stop your backups from
running - even through you've got a number of available tape drives! Other
than the emails and log entries it really had very little impact now.

  Scott.
