We have one NDMP drive (DLT8000) in a jukebox that is not NDMP (the robot
arm is controlled by HP-UX storage node). All backups, whether they are
NDMP or not, fall into one of 2 pools, full and nonfull. The only
distinction between NDMP and non-NDMP is in the device definition (jbconfig)
and in the client definition (nwadmin). Everything else is handled by
NetWorker (6.1.1). The only problem I have had with this configuration is
that the NDMP drive has a hard time labling tapes, specifically, it has
trouble unloading the tape, although nsrjb will unload it with no problem.
When labling, I just make sure that the NDMP device is busy so it doesn't
participate.

You have to use a dedicated pool for NDMP. You also have to flag
NDMP-based tape drives to write that pool.

You cannot backup standard client (non ndmp ones) to a ndmp pool
(nor reverse).

Hope that helps,

Thierry

I have had this question posed to me by one of our foreign offices, but
have
had no experience yet with NDMP.

When running NDMP backups can you backup non NDMP clients, if even to a
sperate drive or jukebox other than the NDMP device?
