Hi All,
I have a client who is having a very weird problem. Here are some details:
Windows NT4 Server with Service Pack6A.
Legato NetWorker 6.0.2
Dell Dual P4 1.8GHz
1GB Ram.
QLogic 2200 HBA connected to an EMC switch.
Library attached to the FC switch is an IBM Anaconda with 5X LTO Ultrium
Drives.
Problem:
During the first set of scheduled backups, the backups work fine with the
drives performing well. When the second set of scheduled backup starts
(incidentally the backup groups are set to start 45 minutes apart), the next
device gets used and the backups continue with no problem. At abt the 5th
group, the performance starts to degrade. It is also noticable that during
verify label operations or moving file/records operations, the remaining
drives completing stop operating and do not respond. However once the
operation is complete, the backup device slows down again. This results in
the 45 minute delay allowing the next group to start and with the poor
device write speed, the subsequent backups fail/timeout. Setting up client
retries is not really an option since our client backups some 300 client
computers and meeting the backup window is an absolute must.
Anyone with ideas?
Regards
Sumash Singh
