It could be a side effect of end of tape detection,
I currently have a DLT7000 in a exabyte 18D (just back from repair) that
has this behaviour, it has the same firmware as the DLT7000 in my
exabyte 230 unit. I am still investigating the exact reason for this
message but I see it only at the end of the tape.
