My existing setup:
Library: Sun (STK) L700, 8 x DLT7000 (Diff-SCSI)
Server: Sun E-450, Solaris 2.6
Software: Sun (Legato) Solstice Backup 6.0.3 Build 358
Network Edition
This single server is currently running the eight drives, and
has begun to run slowly. Therefore I'm planning on adding a 2nd
450 as storage node for drives 5-7. Problem is that I want to
ensure all future cloning will be local on each node, and not
across the network.
>From the archives, it appears that I need to ensure each node's
'clone storage node' entries (for the client definition) only has
that system on it and nothing else. The manpage for
nsr_storage_node also mentions the source tape should be
unmounted at start or else network cloning may commence.
My questions here are to clarify the discussion I've seen so far:
- Is this really (in summary) all that needs to be done to assure
non-network cloning? What has been the group's experience in doing
something like this?
- We use a script here to do the clones (simple group of savesets by
volume). It would appear to be easy enough to force non-mounted source
tapes using 'nsrjb -u <volume>' but multi-volume savesets are out of my
control later on for the remaining volumes in series. Or do the settings
fix this automatically?
- If the new storage node is used for dedicated cloning, would it
help to have nsrclone run only from this system?
Many Thanks in Advance,
