Hello,
it shoud not have any negative effects on bacula behaviour. But you must be
aware of the difference between LZO and GZIP compression.

LZO: very fast but low compression ratio.
GZIP: slower but better compression ratio than LZO.

If you have a fast link between your bacula-fd and your bacula-sd, GZIP could 
increase your backup time. The best you can do is just try GZIP and see if 
backup duration is still ok for you. If not, just switch back to LZO or try 
GZIP1.
