I have a DLT-8000 tape drive which is running a disk-to-tape backup right now.

Such a drive does only 5MB/s, so my hard drives are never stretched to the
limit.

The tape repeatedly does a stop, reverse, stop, forward, roughly every 15
seconds. This change takes about a second.

Does this sound normal to you?
