This is basically the same I'd do. More PostgreSQL instances just need
more memory to be usable at all.

 From my time instructing on installation and troubleshooting for various types of "embedded controller systems"  where I would do things like swap a working serial cable with one that had the sheath obviously opened and TX or RX, or RTS snipped, learn to check your cables...

If you just want to teach how to configure use fixed IP addresses, if you want to include troubleshooting, then allow them to be changed, I have also found that giving people two minutes to non destructively break each others configs can be good for troubleshooting as well.

Having snapshots that can be easily rolled back can be an overall timesaver,
