You can use (my own) BaculaFS [1] to prefetch to cache files whose name matches a regular _expression_:

baculafs -o  driver=<mysql|postgresql|sqlite3>,user_cache_path=/path/to/cache/dir,client=some-fd,fileset=some-fileset,prefetch_regex='\.doc$' /path/to/mount/point

If all goes well (alpha...), you should have all the doc files under the user cache directory.
