Open a terminal window and type
ps -e | grep bacula
and see if bacula-sd is running.
Here is an example
jmd0 ~ # ps -e | grep bacula
10097 ? 00:02:13 bacula-fd
10100 ? 00:00:03 bacula-sd
10288 ? 00:00:00 bacula-dir
