I am using 2.2.8 and it is not using the client part for me:

#estimate job=vs_ldap1-root
Using Catalog "HBCatalog"
Connecting to Client vs_ldap1-fd at 192.168.1.230:9102
2000 OK estimate files=107948 bytes=1,951,280,722

#estimate job=vs_ldap1-root client=fs_1
Using Catalog "HBCatalog"
Connecting to Client vs_ldap1-fd at 192.168.1.230:9102
2000 OK estimate files=107948 bytes=1,951,280,722

I guarantee that both / folders are not using the exact same # of bytes.
