True. But, at least for tape volumes (and DVDs, IIRC) the volume name 
is part of the volume label. For Bacula to work correctly, that volume 
label should match what is in the catalog.

Thus, the console allows you to relabel a volume only when it's 
"empty", so the volume label can be rewritten.

Changing the volume name in the catalog is indeed a simple thing.

For disk volumes, simply renaming the file to the new name should be 
sufficient. With tapes and DVDs, you should not be astonished if you 
find things go seriously wrong after you changed the catalog volume 
name only.

In short: Be very careful, and test before using this with important 
volumes.

Also be aware that bscan, bls and bextract will access the volume name 
as stored in the volume label only...
