it passes whatever you put in $Conf{TarClientCmd}, $Conf{TarFullArgs} and
$Conf{TarIncrArgs} ... but config.pl states:

    GNU tar is required.

It doesn't exactly say why, though. Can you compile GNU tar on the box?
