has there been any thoughts on utilizing posix_fadvise* in BackupPC?

I have looked at it and I am considering it, after 4.0.0 is finished.

But here comes /proc/sys/vm/vfs_cache_pressure to the rescue

Please tell us what results you get - if this approach works then that would avoid the need for application-level hints.
