Some (maybe many) have had an issue backing up Netware servers with
BackupPC. I know Netware isn't anywhere near as popular as it once
was, but there are still Netware servers out there.
The issue, when using RsyncD is that BackupPC will choke out with
Error connecting to module USER at myserver:873: unexpected response:
'This is the Netware(r) port of Rsync 2.5.6.'
The issue is actually somewhat trivial, the RSync
module on Netware is responding with information that File::RsyncP
is not expecting and cannot handle (although the binary Rsync
handles just fine on the linux command line).
The solution is to delete the sys:\rsync\rsync.motd file, and to
edit sys:\etc\rsyncd.conf file, and remove the MOTD line from it.
Then Netware's rsync works as expected, and BackupPC will actually
backup the Netware server.
I posted this to the list, so hopefully it will end up in search
results and people's issues will be resolved, should they have it.
