Not ideal, but appears to work.

Thanks.

Feature idea to cover this issue:  Change ClientNameAlias configuration to allow it to be a list.  Then when searching for the host to backup, search for each name given in order until it is found or all names are checked.

To cover my scenario using  Les's technique, I would would set cfinley01 and cfinley02 to use a static IP (say 192.168.0.86) and have one configuration for cfinley01or02 with:
  * ClientNameAlias=192.168.0.86   # static IP used by cfinley01 and cfinley02

To cover my scenario using the above proposed change: I would have one configuration for cfinley01or02 with:
 * ClientNameAlias=cfinley01, cfinley02

I wouldn't worry about extra copies on the server.  Remember that with
the way pooling works you only have one actual copy of any file and all
other instances are links to it.

If they share a static IP address, you might just use one of the host
names and set ClientAlias to the IP address so you'll hit the right box
regardless of which way it is booted.  But, if you are backing up any of
the system areas you'll keep switching the instances in your backups.
