TCP looks after this for you. As long as the host gets the same IP
address, and the outage is short, then it will work. However, it also
relies on the error not being passed back to the application (ssh
probably). ie, if the card informs the driver that the cable was
removed, and the app attempts to send a packet before the cable is
re-connected, then the driver (may) return an error to the app, which
may exit with an error. If the app doesn't send a packet while
disconnected, or the driver doesn't return the error, then it will
work as you saw.

In short, it can work, but not always :)
