Thanks for your help debugging this!

It turns out it is a bug in Archive::Zip 1.30 (the latest version).
Earlier versions (eg: 1.23) are ok.

I submitted a bug report and patch for Archive::Zip on cpan.org:

    https://rt.cpan.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=54827

If there is a need I could also try to do a fix in BackupPC that
avoids the bug in Archive::Zip 1.30.
