For me it does. I often want to know or do things like:
- When did I first create a file?
- Return all versions of file xyz so I can find the version I want?
- On which of my multiple machines did I store a certain old version of
  file 'abc'?
- Grep through all old files called x*yz for the occurrence of pattern
abc. (this is particularly useful to find deleted emails that may be
  present in an older INBOX)
