It's too bad rsync doesn't have any kind of hook/plugin system where you
could add in your own hooks for writing/reading files.. then one could
always use the stock rsync, but have a backuppc back end to do the I/O.
(I suppose one could use LD_PRELOAD or a fuse filesystem...)
One could also devise a way to lookup the new file's checksum to see if
that file exists anywhere else in the pool already.
