While I think there are still bugs that keep cygwin rsync from working
correctly when started by sshd, it is possible to run rsyncd with direct
access blocked and use a port-forwarding tunnel set up through ssh to
get encryption. I think someone posted instructions for this to the
list some time ago. If you have sshd running on the windows side you
should also be able to use it to execute pre and post commands to manage
the shadow copies.
