Hi, Peter. If you haven't found a Windows binary of rsync 3 yet, try
http://www.itefix.no/i2/node/10650

I had to upgrade my rsync from 2.6.9 to 3 due to high memory usage by
2.6.9 when walking the directory tree and building a file list in
memory... if you have a lot of files, this will take a lot of memory
on 2.6.9.

version 3 has incremental recursion, where it only keeps two
directories in memory at one go, the current one and the next one.
this helps a lot. for us it made the difference between being able or
unable to run the backup!

good luck!
Aleksey
