WindowsXP can do shadow copies but it does not have the powershell or whatever the heck it is called and so the tools are not there by default.

I thought someone posted a while back that they were using
$Conf{DumpPreUserCmd} with cygwin/ssh to send the command to make a
shadow copy that they subsequently back up, but I think it requires win
2003 server and I've forgotten the details.
