what is the amanda entry in /etc/inet/inetd.conf?
amanda dgram udp wait root /opt/amanda/libexec/amandad amandad
Tried to run amandad as root-user instead of Amanda?
Or is this just for the test?
If you have run once as root, some files are created as root, and
when running later as the backup user, Amanda cannot write into them.
The most obvious one is /tmp/amanda debug directory. Leaving you
without a clue why not even the debug output is not there.
Most people notice this only when on the Amanda server the amcheck
fails. That why a lot of client config problems are handled here:
(instead of under "amandad issues")
