hello there,

ive got some problems with amanda (2.4.5).
i use a hard disk with 250 gb space as backup media, no holding disk.

the backup cycle lasts 14 days, with 14 runs. each sunday there is a full backup ( ~ 90 GB each), the other 12 days incremental (~100 mb each). the backups are working execellent. but after 14 days, when the dumpcycle restarts, slot1 (where the first full backup is placed) is used again. thats okay, but the old backups on the tapes are not deleted, so there is insufficient space.

i want to have a tape cleared, before it is reused. how can i do that ?

Strange, but if I do it, it works.

As soon as Amanda labels the vtape, the complete contents of the
directory is erased. (But I'm using 2.5.0b2 for that test.)

But even on my 2.4.5 server with vtapes, I never have noticed that
behaviour (but I'm not in at night to watch it -- and I do
have enough diskspace for an extra vtape left too).

Can you give more details how you diagnosed this?

Is it only slot1 which is not erased or does the same thing happen
with slot8 (the other sunday)?
