i have been experimenting with 2.4.5 with the split/span patch. it would be nice to be able to simply upgrade from our current 2.4.2p1 to 2.4.5 + split/span 7.2, using the same curinfo database.

The 2.5.0, now in beta, will have split/span incorporated.
Testing appreciated.

is it the case that the split/span changes use exactly the same database format, or are they different and thus incompatable??

The curinfo database is indeed backward compatible.
(curinfo databases are pure text files since 2.4.2, about 7 years old now, unless you set special compile time options).
