I think this falls into the "strange" and informational
message category rather than "failure" category.

OK, trying to write that DLE to tape something went wrong.

It successfully wrote 8 DLE's (fm 8 == 8 FileMarks) taking
a total of 142.8GB (kb 142...) of the tape. During the writing
of the 9th DLE, it hit the end of the tape (no space).

You said you are using SDLT tapes, what 160GB? 160 capacity
minus 143 already filled is 17GB left. Probably the ninth DLE
was over 17GB.

So, taper is going to try this again on a different tape.
Had to because there was no space on the old one.

Now taper says on tape 001, things went OK. There was only
one DLE (fm 1) written and it took 84.1GB (kb 84...). That
is definitely bigger than 17.

Certainly could have been, but doesn't look like it to me.
What did the rest of your report have to say, did it show
all your DLE"s being successfully dumped and taped?
