Stefan,

That did not work. I did find a way to get the data however.

For some reason, there are two sets of files written to the
same tape, for the same date. These files are separated
with (I believe) with some sort of eof marker.

The first set are the files listed in the log before the
"INFO driver genetics /home/root 1 [dump to tape failed, will try again]"
message.

The second set (apparently after some kind of eof marker) are the
ones after the "INFO" message.

Amazingly, I was able to get the data by doing this:
1. Rewind the tape
2. Do an "amrestore". This restore will get the first 36 disks.
3. Do another "amrestore". This restore can get the 51 disks
which are in the "retry" dump.

I think I have found a bug in amanda. I hope someone can
look into this problem further. Is there any other way than
this mailing list to report a bug?

Thanks,

David

Hi, David,

Have you inserted the tape DailySet3-012?

Try to rewind it before running amrecover.

DT> Does the "fm 51" above mean that there are 51 files on the tape?

Yes. fm means filemark.

DT> Could the message above
DT> "INFO driver genetics /home/root 1 [dump to tape failed, will try again]"
DT> have caused the problem?

This does not affect /home/scrozier. /home/root failed.

DT> Most importantly, is the any way to get the data?

Yes.
Rewind the tape, then re-run amrecover. Should help.
