Looks like you also need to increase dtimeout in your amanda.conf.
If you really want to speed things up, split your DLE into chunks
smaller than your holdingdisk (you may also need to adjust the
'reserve' parameter to allow fulls to go there).
   To split your DLE, instead of /home list /home/foo, /home/bar,
etc.  I think you may be able to use regexes but I'm not sure of
that.  If you want to be sure not to miss new directories, also
include a /home DLE with an exclude for each of the subdirectory
DLEs you have.  For example, if you have DLEs of /home/foo and
/home/bar., also have /home with an exclude of foo and bar.
