Yes. You need to recompile the entire distribution when you change any
of the configuration directives to ensure that all portions of the
Amanda set agree with each other. On any modern system, this doesn't take
very long and is good insurance that Amanda will work as expected.

In particular, the client and server both need to know that a portrange
is in effect, since that affects both the server (knowing which ports to
use to connect to the client) and the client (knowing which ports to expect
connections on). Since it is the server making the connection to the client
to do a backup, the server must know about the port range, since it chooses
the ports to use for the connections.

Hello Folks,

If Amanda is configured with the --with-portrange, --with-tcpportrange,
--with-udpportrange on the client, are you obligated to recompile on the
server with these directives also?

The reason I'm asking is that the client has a firewall installed...but
not the server. I also have other clients that do not have the strict
UDP and TCP portranges established at compile time.

Thank You.
