How do the holding disk and dumping to tape interact?

Hello all,
How does the holding disk work in amanda with relation to dumping to
tape? Specifically, does Amanda wait for all filesystems to be spooled
before it starts dumping to tape? Does amanda start dumping to tape
while it is still spooling the filesystems to the holding disk?
Which is the default behavior and can I change it?
