Tempting as it seems, I'm afraid this is not the case. The rewind is
actually being done by amverify when I start it from command line:
----------------------< cut here >----------------------
kuller# su amanda -c "amverify PAEV"
Tape changer is chg-manual...
1 slot...

Checked kuller.raad.tartu.ee._usr.20030116.0
** Error detected ()
mrestore: WARNING: not at start of tape, file numbers will be offset
amrestore: 0: reached end of information
** No header
0+0 in
0+0 out
(the same error repeats for all dump images)
----------------------< cut here >----------------------
And here's the output of (successful)amrestore:
----------------------< cut here >----------------------
kuller# amrestore /dev/nrsa0 kuller.raad.tartu.ee /
amrestore: 0: skipping start of tape: date 20030116 label PAEV13
amrestore: 1: skipping kuller.raad.tartu.ee._usr.20030116.0
amrestore: 2: skipping heerold.raad.tartu.ee._.20030116.0
amrestore: 3: skipping kuller.raad.tartu.ee._var.20030116.0
amrestore: 4: skipping heerold.raad.tartu.ee._var.20030116.0
amrestore: 5: restoring kuller.raad.tartu.ee._.20030116.0
amrestore: 6: reached end of information
kuller# ls -l | grep kuller
-rw-r----- 1 root wheel 59637760 Jan 17 16:16
kuller.raad.tartu.ee._.20030116.0
----------------------< cut here >----------------------
Still, thanks for offering the idea.
