Hi,

Let say your library having 10 drives and 400 slots , now you want to
create two partition then..

Logical partition A --- 4 drive and 150 slots---TSMserver A
Logical partation B--3 drives and 100 slots---TSMserverB

so now you created two partition and used 7 drives and 250 slots... your 3
drives and 150 slots are unassigned.that can be use for further partition
or later on added to existing partition..

Key thing--- you can not use drives from partition A for TSMSERVERB same
applicable to TSMSERVERA cannot use logical partition B drives...

For slots , it can be adjusted based on physical count, here if you are
looking for VIO then you need to subtract total VIO slots from physical
slots then assign to purgation..

In ALMS the control path is managed by drives assignment - means you need
to manage from library console.

Once partition is created with VIO then on TSM /OS side you have
visibility for only assigned partition based on zoning and drives
assignment ...so on tsm/os side it is same as normal library 3500..

so when you issue the tapeutil command the output will be similar as
stand-alone library only difference is you will have IO slots from
Virtual IO and drives/slots from ALMS...

Hi again,

I want to avoid to have TSM Servers with TLS. Former 3494 library had an
option to add categories when we defined the library in TSM, then you also
define the category and 3494 was able to distinguish the cartridge among
TSM Servers. On the other hand you could join drives to TSM Servers even
the same drive to several TSM Servers..

Now I am investigating with ALMS. I am looking for this feature or
similar but I don't know if it is possible in TS3500 with ALMS feature.

Regards,

Fran

Well,

I have 5 TSM instances living in the same LPAR and all the drives are
defined to all TSM instances. Library sharing is turned on.
