That's a tough problem.  While not specifically for TSM, I've scripted
several things for other systems.
1)  through the cmd in background and have a loop that waits for it to
complete.  If too long, throw an error.
2) count how many dsmadmc cmds are running on the box.  If over some
number, throw an error.

Hi.

We have been monitoring our instances for some time by connectiong,
doing a command, and exiting.  We ran into a situation with an AIX
hang, where the connection was made, but then the scripts hung because
nothing came back.  How are you checking for instance availability,
and TSM server availability?  Thanks.
