When running Data Protection for Exchange 
with Exchange Server 2010, it uses VSS.
When VSS is used, it is the Windows BA Client that actually
performs the data transfer. 

Did you configure the Windows BA Client correctly to perform LANFree?

Also, if you are trying to perform the LANFRee
through a non-standard management class
assignment, you may be running into APAR IC69348.
