Without knowing more about your environment, it's difficult to answer what
is best for you.
Separating the pools by data retention does have it's advantages, one of
which is that reclamation could be more efficient. However you are going
to end up using more tape media overall.
As for the Disk / tape HBA split, it is recommended that they are. I've
not personally seen any issues relating to this, but there are people on
here that have if memory serves.
IBM would also recommend this if you called them up.

[ADSM-L] Copy Pool Question
Caterpillar: Confidential Green Retain Until: 18/08/2010
Hi All
I have 3 copy pools on my TSM server.
One for normal type retention, one for monthly, and one for yearly.
The though process behind it was that similar type retention data i.e
monthly schedules are moved to monthly copy pools etc.
Am iwrong in doing this.
If I keep them all in one copy poll, is this better, and are there
performance/amount of tapes used issues that I will experience.
I find my offsite's create process are taking forever. I use a TS3310
Tape Library with 6 LTO3 FC drives, on TSm 5.5.4 on AIX 5.3 IBMp570
LPAR.
We have also not split FC tape data and SAN traffic and both are over
the same HBA.
Thanks in advance.
