[ADSM-L] SV: Windows 2008 client oddities
2010-03-09 23:58:04
Hi Thomas,
Does two error do I see very offend.
1) This is a installation problem from your vendor that provide file
\q57nd60a.sys. I normally see vmx_vga.sys from VMware Tools or cba.sys from
Intel LANDesk. And only on Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2.
But basically what happening is that, the MSI package that installing the
software is writing in to registry that a file exist in \System32\...\...
somewhere and TSM BA Client pick that up and expect to backup up that file. But
somehow doesn't that file exist and TSM think now the System State is broken
and its stops.
If you run NTBackup in Windows, then doesn't even Windows pickup that file or
tells us it is broken or missing. So I'm guessing either TSM got a different
list of files to backup then NTBackup or TSM is more sensitive then NTBackup
and help us to really understand if SystemState is correct or not.
To solve the problem is to copy the file manually to the correct location that
TSM tells you where it should be. Or generate a blank file with the correct
name. Then will TSM works fine.
2) This have I see a couple of times also but haven't got time to solve it yet.
But I have so far just exclude that path and TSM works now.

We have a Windows 2008 client running TSM 5.5.1.6 client code which
is getting the following messages in dsmsched.log:
03/08/2010 06:00:07 ANS5278W Error processing
'\\mosaiq-db1\c$\Windows\System32\drivers\q57nd60a.sys':
file not found.
03/08/2010 06:01:53 ANS1228E Sending of object
'\\mosaiq-db1\c$\Boot\BCD' failed
03/08/2010 06:01:53 ANS4987E Error processing
'\\mosaiq-db1\c$\Boot\BCD':
the object is in use by another process
Do these indicate a problem with the system file backup mechanism,
or problems encountered while trying to back up some system files
in the same way TSM backs up user files? If the latter is true, are
these files supposed to be excluded from normal backup processing?
Is a 'file not found' message for a driver as scary as it sounds?
Is C;\Boot\BCD supposed to be in use after the boot process is
done? How critical is it to have a backup of this file?
